Science Experiments.

This term we are learning about science and get to do our own experiments. Aukaha and I choose to do flying teabag. The first time it didn’t work due to the windy air and also because Whaea Jasmine lit it from the bottom instead of the top. To make it work we had to gather in a slightly less windier place and gathered in a circle, this time we lit it from the top. It then finally worked. My hypothesis was it would explode.

Here is a link to our slide.

I enjoyed doing this experiment and encourage you to try it.

Thank-you for reading.

Beach Safety.

This morning we were learning about beach safety and what do to if we need help. Did you know that rip currents can sweep people out to sea very quickly and plunging waves can grow quickly and crash down hard. I think that it is very important to learn about beach safety because we are surrounded by water all around us. One thing that I think is important for me to remember is to look for rips and swim in between the flags.

Here is a link to my work.

Remember if in doubt, stay out.

Thank-you for reading.

Geometry Terms.

Today in math we learn’t about different geometric terms.

Here is my slideshow.

The shapes that I already knew were Quadrilateral, kite, square, Rectangle and scalene triangle.

The shapes that I need to learn more about are trapezoid, plane shapes, heptagon, congruent shapes and isosceles triangle.

Thank-you for reading.

Atoms.

Today some of the years 6,7 and 8s had to learn about science. Two scientist came from the university of Canterbury and taught us about atoms. I learnt that electrons is the bit on the outside of the atom. The little ball in the middle is called the nucleus, the nucleus is made up of protons and neutrons.

We even got to make our own ones, here are some pictures.

Here are some pictures of the man pouring dried ice on the floor. The man has been fortunate enough to go to Antartica over 20 times! He body temperature in Antarctica was the same as a seals bum. He was even lucky enough to meet David Attenborough and Edmond Hillary.

I enjoyed learning about this and hope to learn more.

Thank-you for reading.

Polygons.

This morning we have been learning about polygons, polygons are flat 2D shapes . I learnt that all the lines have to connect and have to be straight, it also has no intersecting lines.

Thank-you for reading.

Technology.

This term in tech we did foods. We made Maragarita pizzas today. I learn’t that pizzas were made in Italy and the Margarita pizza is based on queen Margarita and is also the colors of the Italy flag.

Here is a picture of the pizzas:

I enjoyed making and eating this. Thank-you for redaing.

What class are you in for tech?

Geometry.

In the past couple of days we have been learning about different types of angles in geometry.

I learnt that obtuse angles are 125 degrees. Here is a picture of my work:
